Following the money almost always gives you the simplest explanation for the motives behind such BS studies; one you open your eyes to this in all areas of biz, gov’t, etc., you can’t help but cast a side eye at what is held up as “truth” and/or “facts” in the face of clear-cut conflicts of interest.

I have a friend who took part in a study for an experimental liver cancer drug. When his results or what they wanted they kicked him out of the study. You can’t trust any of these studies done by these organizations

The anti-health medical mafia strikes again. Just what has the AHA done for anyone lately? I have practiced intermittent fasting quite regularly for 5-6 years starting in my late 60's. I doubt I will give it up. You really don't know if you follow one path what might have happened if you took another path instead. All I am sure of is that following the medical mafia is the wrong path.

Another example of the success of dumbing down a population. Anyone who gets their scientific or medical news from the media is abdicating responsibility for themselves.

Back when education was, well educational, a third grader learning the scientific method who reported this as “evidence” in a science fare would be dinged, possibly failed.

Breathtaking how many people refuse to read for themselves and “trust” the talking heads!

Psychology of hydration

To REACT equals dehydrated

To RESPOND equals hydrated

The difference is salt plus water.

A hydrated brain can access the frontal brain.

A dehydrated brain can only access fear, fight, flight because everything is an emergency when the adrenals come online - turn them off with salt water.

That seems to be something the study just kinda glossed over. Wouldn’t weight loss (and let’s be honest, the better mood that comes with it) be easier on your heart on the long run?

In this bizarro world, is smoking okay for you again? ‘Cause I wouldn’t mind rippin’ the occasional heater.

I agree you should take guidance from the AHA with a grain of salt. Its counterpart in Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, has as its founding sponsor Becel margarine. Becel might be a very good product but I need independent sources to confirm that.

At the same time I do not ignore all research from the organization if it can be verified by other sources. There is good independent evidence concerning red meat, for example.

Also though I do not personally eat Cheerios that cereal is superior to many other breakfast cereals. It is primarily whole grain with only 1 gram of added sugar per serving. So not a great example of “junk” cereal.

I would say choose your sources of media wisely but if you ignore all mainstream you will be poorly informed.

Same with colleges and universities. They provide about the best source of expertise on a wide range of topics and you ignore them at your peril.

I gather you have a beef with the Gates. What exactly is the problem?

For starters, this so-called study was not a randomized controlled trial (RCT). It was an epidemiological study relying upon just two 24-hour dietary recall questionnaires collected between the years 2003 and 2018. (Psst...Intermittent fasting wasn't even a thing until 2016, BTW.)

While the investigators did in fact find higher rates of death in people who remembered eating most of their meals in an 8-hour feeding window compared to those who remembered eating their calories in a 12 to 16 hour window; where these people intentionally intermittent fasting for their health or just whimsically eating one meal a day?

My vote is the latter, here's why: the 414 people in so-called '8-hour time-restricted eating bucket' of the study smoked more, weighed more and had higher rates of pre-existing heart disease compared to individuals who reported eating in a 12 to 16 hour window.

I legitimately feel better when I don't eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I eat once to twice a day. One being very small. Maybe just an apple and piece of cheese. Too many people eat just because it's time, not because they are hungry. As we age we don't need all of that. We take many supplements and use pine pollen powders in our coffee. High protein has ALWAYS made me gain. Whether it's just collagen in my coffee or eggs. If I eat breakfast when I'm not hungry...I'm starved by lunch. Everyone is different. You have to listen to your body and learn what works for you. As far as cereal...ANY kind kids or 'supposedly' healthy...if I eat in am my blood sugar hits the FLOOR around 2-4! Carb crash from Hatis! It's a HORRIBLE feeling! I'm racing inside, feel exhausted, shake, I sweat, but feel cold, and I'm dizzy! I've almost passed out a couple of times before I figured out what was causing it! I ate some of that Chex mix at Christmas one day around 11. Thinking oh this can't be too bad for you?! Oh Lordt...yep that was not such a good idea! And you're talking about a person who LOVES cereal! 🥺 I can even eat donuts for breakfast and nothing happens! Plus I'm not starved by lunch. I don't know what it is with cereal, but I avoid it like the plague! 🥴
